a note of introduction
I've been experimenting with web design for several years now,
even investing in a 'visual quickstart guide' called
HTML for the world wide web by Elizabeth Castro. However, I found that teaching
myself was resulting in my missing many of the finer points of HTML and decided that
if I was ever really going to grasp all the concepts captured in the fine art of web
design that I should probably entertain the possibility of pursuing some kind of
formal training on the subject.
And so began my participation in a 7-week course in HTML and Cascading Style Sheets
offered through The Chang School at Ryerson. It comes as no
surprise that as part of the course, one of my tasks is to create a webpage using the many techniques
learned throughout the course. Being the creative genius that I am, this is what I've come up with.
The exerpt below is taken from an email (plea if you will) I sent to all the email addresses unfortunate enough to have
found their way into my contact list......Thankfully, a number of friends and family
humoured me by sending their contributions to my little project and clicking on any
of the links under 'creative genius' in the menu on the right will display what each person
sent me. Enjoy!

To: Everyone I Know
cc: A few more people just in case
Subject: Website
Short Version (for those with limited attention span):
I would be very grateful if you would take the time to think about something
you'd be willing to send to (and ultimately share with) me that you feel is
an expression of yourself. It needs to be something you can send to me electronically
and something I can upload to a website (don't worry too much about this part -
I'll figure that out).
Suggestions include:
- a picture you are particulary fond or proud of
- some kind of written _expression
- a clip of music (legal of course)
- a picture or scan of a piece of art you've created
Longer Version (for those that actually care WHY I might be asking this):
I'm taking a web site design course (hopefully more to follow that will eventually
lead to an advanced training designation) and as part of the course I need to
design a web page. It needs to be something releatively unique and make use of
media that belongs to me (i.e. I haven't ripped it off someone else's website).
So I thought that maybe I would try to get some kind of collection of things from
those that are near and dear to me (that's you) that they feel is an expression of
themselves. Maybe that's a picture you are particularly fond or proud of, some kind
of expression in writing (poem, song, story, etc.), a clip of music (please make sure
it's legal), a scan or picture of some piece of artwork you've produced......You get
the idea. I'd really love to collect as much as possible, so please consider this and
send me whatever you can think of.
Thanks in advance to everyone :)
